Episode 1

Rebirth

In a few minutes the structure of our society had collapsed. Everyone was trying to find a shelter. After the official announcement, the great leaders of the world we knew were gone and now we had to find a way to protect our families.

In a few hours humanity turned back the time and was trapped in the ancient years. There were no rules, the stronger would survive. But this time, there was a difference. The enemies were stronger and superior to the human species. And soon, no one would make it.

Have you ever thought how it feels hearing the sound of the raindrops crashing onto the ground? Have you ever come to a point where you felt helpless because you were starving and you didn’t know how to satisfy the need to stop your hunger?

It was like living an earthquake and the worst part was that my body was causing that terrifying movement. My veins started shaking like dangerous snakes under my skin as the blood was running like an angry river through the channels of my cold flesh. And I felt hopeless since I couldn’t define my own body and control my reactions.

Outside it was dark and had just started raining. I could hear the raindrops crashing onto the golden leaves of the large oak trees and could listen to the sound of their branches as they were leaning toward our house due to the strong wind. I was still wondering about their size, it was impossible to hear them so clearly, after all, they were small trees. We had planted them in our garden a few months ago and there was no way to have grown impressively already.

My hunger took over again. I was so hungry that I could eat everything; I could smell anything but nothing seemed to be good enough or useful to make that feeling go away. Until I heard an owl coming closer and resting on the grey roof tiles of our house. The moment I heard the heartbeat of the admirable predator I was sure there was something wrong. It was like calling me to come closer to it, like a silent and powerful magnet that had the power to attract every single cell of my body.

The next moment, I was sitting on the roof. The black owl was dead; I held her wings and was disgusted. I had killed that bird; I had stolen its life and didn’t care about the blood of it on my lips. All I knew was that I needed more; my body couldn’t live without it. And I was not the same, not anymore. And could do nothing but accept what I did, accept my new nature.

I jumped from over fifteen meters to the ground and didn’t break anything. I turned back and looked up, it was fascinating, it was crazy but it was frightening as hell. How was I supposed to react? What the fuck was going on? Where was Patrick? Why was I reacting like this and why could my body function like  being an alien?

I heard their footsteps coming closer to me; they were walking on the wet grass. I left my black hair covering my face and the darkness of the freaking situation. I could smell death and disgust.

They came closer and they circled me. I looked their faces but they didn’t seem like my neighbors. They were different; there was no color into their eyes. They were not talking; their jaws were bleeding. When I looked better, I realized they were not injured. What I saw a few seconds earlier was blood, someone’s blood that happened to experience the worst death of all. They had turned into beasts and now were ready to attack. They were not talking, they were moaning and that was weird. They were following their killing instincts, they needed food and now I was going to be their next meal.

“What happened? Why are we all behaving this way?”

It was like talking to me. Six people came up to me and in a few minutes they were all lying dead on the red grass. I had ripped out their hearts. When I left the last one from my cold hands, I tried to throw up, but in vain. I was still shocked. I moved like a flash and just tore their flesh apart like they were fake, silicon dolls. I had never done that before; I had never attacked to anyone in my whole life and had no idea I was aware of martial arts. That was not me, definitely not me.

I swept the red raindrops away my face and focused my eyes on the death I had brought while coming back from my awakening.

These people were infected by something, I was the beast and I had to find the answers. I was shocked by my action and rushed to hide myself like I was the victim of this madness. I rushed to find my old shelter; I went back where I had found my consciousness and tried to remember what had happened to me and to all of us.
